When it comes to energy policy Burlingtonians have much to be proud of. In 1990 voters passed an $11.3 million energy efficiency bond which has led directly to a decrease in electrical demand while Burlington has grown prosperously. Each year, this energy-efficiency work is estimated to save ratepayers $5.9 million while cutting global warming pollution by over 43,000 tons. Our public utility, Burlington Electric Department has achieved a 67% share of renewable energy while maintaining some of the most affordable rates in the region.
Marrisa will support current initiatives to cut global warming pollution, protect our environment, and save energy. Marrisa will work closely with the Environmental and Energy Coordinating Committee (E2C2) to implement recommendations for addressing Climate Change.
In an era of climate change and peak oil, and on the cusp of a renewable energy revolution, Burlington must act boldly to stay ahead of the curve.
